The Carpenters Arms Miserden has been voted ‘Cider Pub of the Year 2018 by the Stroud and District CAMRA group. They will now go to the next stage to be assessed against other winners across Gloucestershire. The Carps arranges outings for the villagers and regulars to race meetings in the next county. The publican does the driving and they have a breakfast and then dinner on the way back to the pub, dropping off some of the participants on the way and ending the day in the pub for a nightcap – on the winner.
The Co-Directors of the White Hart gave up their lease in the autumn of 2017 although the Director/chef still works there on a salary paid by the owner who has taken control of the pub again and he is carrying out renovations such as extending the cellar and plans to extend the dining room. He has employed a manager for the time being and turnover appears to be increasing.
The Rose and Crown is still owned by shareholders who live in the village and run by five Directors and a pub manager. The shareholders continue to support the pub with their financial investment and their time, but they have had to forego any dividend in order to maintain the costs of keeping the pub open. .
The Hog Horsley was leased by an entrempreneurial couple who also leased and ran the Canteen and Vaults in Nailsworth. Caroline’s original business partner has gone his own way and she has given up the lease. It closed for a few months in 2020 but is now leased by a new local family.
